Food Service and Vending
Food service equipment can consume a lot of energy and water—sometimes needlessly. Businesses looking to save should look for ENERGY STAR®-qualified equipment that can help them cut down on their energy and water costs.
In addition to lowering energy costs, efficiency improvements can enhance the comfort, appearance, and ambiance of your restaurant, cafeteria, or kitchen for your guests and staff. Simple changes to your kitchen, such as locating cooking line appliances as close to the hood as possible, fixing water leaks, and setting water heaters to proper temperatures can save energy with simply the investment of time. Standard rebates for District businesses and enhanced rebates for small businesses in the District are now available from the DCSEU for qualified equipment.
After September 30, 2021, in line with District policy and the Clean Energy DC Plan, the DCSEU will make the following updates in regards to rebates and incentives for natural gas projects and equipment in commercial, institutional, and multifamily buildings:
The DCSEU will no longer offer rebates/incentives for the following new gas equipment installed in market-rate commercial, institutional, and multifamily buildings:
- Gas Steam Cookers
- Gas Combination Ovens
- Gas Convection Ovens
- Gas Griddles
- Gas Fryers
- Pre-Spray Rinse Valves Full/Fast Food Service w/ Gas Water Heating
The DCSEU MAY still provide incentives and technical support for operations & maintenance (O&M) efficiency measures for existing gas equipment for all commercial and multifamily (market-rate and affordable) properties.
