Pathway: Energy Efficiency

Introduction to Energy Calculations for Savings

If you can solve for x in a simple equation, you are ready. No calculus and no engineering background. Built for operators, facility managers, and energy professionals who have been avoiding the math component of auditing and want to stop. Bring a calculator and leave your anxiety at the door.

Learning Objectives

  • Build genuine comfort with the handful of equations that carry most energy work.
  • Convert cleanly between energy units: kWh, Btu, therms, and tons.
  • Calculate heating and cooling loads (U times A times delta T, and 1.08 times CFM times delta T) without fear.
  • Run simple payback and basic savings math and understand exactly where each one stops being trustworthy.

Course Details

  • Check a vendor's numbers instead of taking them on faith.
  • Run quick load and energy savings estimates in the field or in a meeting.
  • Understand when a rule of thumb is fine and when only measured data will do.
  • Turn “I am not a math person” into “I can run that one myself.”
