This course focuses on the fundamentals of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and sustainable investing, with specific attention to buildings and real estate. Participants are introduced to key ESG concepts and the growing role of sustainability in investment and asset management decisions. The course covers environmental risks and opportunities such as energy, emissions, climate change, waste, biodiversity, and building certifications, along with social considerations including affordability, accessibility, and equity. Governance topics include policies, disclosures, and oversight, as well as major sustainability reporting frameworks and verification approaches such as GRESB, ISSB, TCFD, GRI, and CDP. The course also addresses sustainable investing and finance in real estate, including investor expectations and instruments such as green bonds.
