DCSEU Green Workforce Academy
The local green workforce is expanding and the District's ambitious climate goals necessitates a local green workforce that is prepared to support renewable energy adoption, building energy performance, as well as electrification and decarbonization.
DCSEU Green Workforce Academy: Workforce Development Program and Train Green
The DCSEU has two workforce development opportunities that both contractors and jobseekers of the District looking to increase their capacity their capacity with the green workforce:
- The Workforce Development Program (WFD)
- Train Green Sustainable Energy Infrastructure and Capacity Building Pipeline Program (Train Green SEICBP)
The former offers job skill development and paid on-the-job training for District residents with mentor organizations working within the green workforce while the latter offers a-la-carte no cost courses, credentials, and certifications around energy efficiency and renewable energy design, construction, inspection, and maintenance for Certified Business Enterprises (CBEs), CBE-eligible firms, and District residents. Contractors, organizations working in energy efficiency and renewable energy, and jobseekers each have path for participation in each program. While jobseekers can individually take advantage of each program, contractors can encourage their staffs to sign up for Train Green course and become Workforce Development Program mentor organization to house and train “externs” paid for by the DCSEU.
Important Green Energy Certifications and Credentials
From compliance with local regulations to career advancement, there are many reasons for individuals and companies to seeks ways to enhance their skill and knowledge through green energy credentials and certifications. Each of the following certifications and certifying institutions provide professional development opportunities and make sure companies and individuals are equipped to contribute to greener practices, energy savings, and sustainability goals, benefiting both their organizations and the broader community.
- Building Performance Institute (BPI) - Focus on improving home energy performance, health, and safety.
- Building Operator Certification (BOC) - Important for facility managers and building operators aiming to enhance building performance and energy efficiency.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) - Key for professionals managing energy performance, benchmarking, data verification, and efficiency in various sectors.
- North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) - Essential for professionals in the solar industry, ensuring expertise in renewable energy.
