Residents in Navy Yard Receive Energy Conservation Kits and Air Purifiers
Washington, D.C. – The DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU), in partnership with the DC Housing Authority (DCHA), recently distributed 150 free home energy conservation kits to residents at Greenleaf Senior, a public housing property located between the Navy Yard and Waterfront neighborhoods. Residents of the 215-unit building—part of the larger Greenleaf community—received kits designed to improve energy savings, comfort, and indoor air quality.
Each kit included two high-efficiency air purifiers, an advanced power strip, and a Wi-Fi-enabled smart plug. The air purifiers are appropriately sized to deliver clean air to the main living spaces or bedrooms and are rated to filter smoke, dust, and pollen. The advanced power strip helps reduce wasted electricity by cutting power to idle equipment, while the smart plug allows residents to control their new air purifiers remotely using a smartphone.

“Through DCSEU’s generosity, this partnership is empowering our Greenleaf Senior residents with the tools needed to create healthier, more comfortable homes, and in turn, foster a healthier community for the entire District,” said DCHA Executive Director Keith Pettigrew. “Thank you to the DCSEU for supporting DCHA families.”
Each item came with easy-to-follow instructions, along with DCSEU-provided inserts offering additional details and real-life examples of how the equipment can support healthier, more energy-efficient living.
“We’re thrilled to work with DCHA and to support the Greenleaf community,” said Ben Burdick, Managing Director of the DCSEU. “We look forward to expanding access to the benefits of energy efficiency—and to bringing kits like these to more residents throughout the District and the DCHA community.”
In Fiscal Year 2024, the DCSEU began including energy-efficient air purifiers in its free home energy conservation kits for income-qualified residents. Over the course of the year, the DCSEU delivered kits to more than 5,000 participants through partnerships with nonprofits, food banks, and qualified affordable multifamily housing communities like Greenleaf Senior.
