This is How DC’s Chipotle Restaurants Will Save $11,500 This Year

This past winter, seven Chipotle restaurants in Washington, DC, took their commitment to sustainability one step further.

Chipotle has a reputation for its corporate emphasis on sustainability, with one piece of this commitment being to source ingredients locally in an effort to reduce vehicle emissions from transportation.

This past winter, seven Chipotle restaurants in Washington, DC, took their commitment to sustainability one step further—they retrofitted interior restaurant lights to highly efficient, LED lighting. The seven restaurants that have completed projects with the DCSEU will save a combined $11,500 in energy costs. That will add up to a total of more than $37,000 over the lifetime of the measures installed.

Restaurants, on average, waste more energy than a typical business—as much as $8 billion in energy every year. Thanks to the LED upgrades, these DC Chipotle restaurants will reduce their energy use by more than 110,600 KWH annually. This is equal to the CO2 emissions 12 homes’ electricity use each year!
