The Clean-Cut Yard: Why Switching to Electric Lawn Care Makes Sense

Reduce Harmful Emissions According to an EPA estimation, running a gas-powered lawn mower for sixty minutes generates similar emissions to those of a car traveling 350 miles.
Kick Gas to the Curb Today’s electric lawn equipment is reliable and easy to use. No more running out of gasoline, replacing old spark plugs, or cumbersome, heavy equipment. Just insert the charged battery, flip the switch, and get to work.
Safer Equipment on the Job and at Home
  • Electric equipment is quieter. Workers/residents frequently using gas leaf blowers are exposed to 100+ dB of sound. This exposure can lead to headaches and over time hearing loss.
  • The blades of electric lawn mowers rotate more slowly than those of gas mowers, thereby reducing the possibility of thrown debris.
  • There’s no need to work with or store dangerous fuel. Battery-driven motors mean the risks of highly flammable gasoline are now a thing of the past.
Save Money on Maintenance and Fuel
  • Lower maintenance costs mean electric lawn equipment saves you money over the long haul.
  • Eliminate your lawn care fuel costs entirely. Never purchase fuel stabilizers or make last-minute trips to the gas station again.

Resources

Businesses making the switch, we understand that having reliable equipment is important to your bottom line and maximizing your return on investment. The American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA), an independent organization working to reduce emission and increase safety in the lawn care industry, provide a directory of AGZA Field Tested Certified (AFTC) manufacturers and their electric equipment. Before you purchase any new electric lawn care equipment, visit their directory for what, in their words, is "the best of the best in the cordless lawn and garden sector".

In 2018, Council of the District of Columbia passed the Leaf Blower Regulation Amendment Act that prohibits the sale, offer for sale, or use of any gas-powered leaf blowers within the District, effective January 1st, 2022. Check DLCP's website (formerly DCRA) for updated information about leaf blower regulations.
