Finding Savings on a Fixed Income

"The savings mean a lot to me because I’m on a fixed income. That extra bit of money coming in is very much appreciated.”

Virginia Thomas

In winter 2014, Virginia received whole-home air sealing and insulation, a new efficient water heater, and a new high-efficiency furnace. She also has adopted practices that help her save energy, like using the programmable thermostat she also received through the DCSEU. Virginia’s home improvements will provide energy savings of approximately $6,000 across the lifetime of these installations, and they will also add comfort to her home. As a retiree on a fixed income, Virginia is happy for the estimated $450 in energy costs that the measures will save her each year. She also reports recommending working with the DCSEU to everyone she meets at the Congress Heights Senior Wellness Center, where she is an active member.
