Don’t see the equipment you want to purchase listed in our standard rebates? Any measure or operational improvement you are making in your District-based building that provides cost-effective electric savings is potentially eligible to receive technical assistance and rebates from the DCSEU.

Rebates Available

The DCSEU can assist you in evaluating your energy use and exploring different options with technical support and project savings analysis over the useful life of the measures you are considering for your business, including multifamily residential buildings. Custom technical assistance and rebates are available on a variety of equipment, including but not limited to:

Rebates for Natural Gas Equipment

After September 30, 2021, in line with District policy and the Clean Energy DC Plan, the DCSEU will make the following updates in regards to rebates and incentives for natural gas projects and equipment in commercial, institutional, and multifamily buildings:

The DCSEU will no longer offer rebates/incentives for the following new gas equipment installed in market-rate commercial, institutional, and multifamily buildings:

  • Gas Boilers - hot water conventional and condensing
  • Gas Boilers – Steam
  • Gas Furnaces
  • Rooftop Units – Gas heating
  • Gas Instantaneous Water Heaters
  • Gas Storage Water Heaters
  • Gas Clothes Dryers

The DCSEU MAY still provide incentives and technical support for operations & maintenance (O&M) efficiency measures for existing gas equipment for all commercial and multifamily (market-rate and affordable) properties.

LED Lighting and Controls

Lighting accounts for up to 50% of electricity consumption in businesses. The DCSEU has worked with universities, hospitals, hotels, parking garages, and many other types of businesses across the city to find custom lighting solutions that will save money and increase lighting quality.

Cooling Equipment

Replacing a large chiller in your building? Work with the DCSEU to ensure your project is cost-effective and that you are incorporating other energy-saving opportunities like controls, economizers, and pumps at the same time.

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDS)

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) not only offer potential energy savings, they can also reduce the maintenance needs and extend the life of your equipment. The DCSEU can offer technical assistance and custom rebates for VFDs across a range of applications.

Financing Your Project

The DCSEU can help you gain access to financing to fund your energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. With a customer's permission, the DCSEU provides project information to lenders to demonstrate the savings that can be realized by implementing energy efficiency upgrades. Lenders can review the project details and get in touch with you if they have a product that might be right for your business.

The DCSEU works with the DC Green Bank, which leverages public funding to attract private capital for clean energy projects. 

In addition, the DCSEU works with partners in the District and beyond who offer:

  • Efficiency-as-as-Service
  • Energy Savings Performance Contracts
  • Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
