Course Description

EAI Commercial Energy Audit Training Program will teach participant how to conduct a detailed small business energy audit. Participants will gain this knowledge by completing the ten modules set forth below which will allow the participant to identify the common energy wasting areas of a commercial facility. Participants will also learn more in-depth energy conservation techniques to enable maximum energy savings.

  • Analyzing Energy Usage
  • Benchmarking and Energy Use Intensity (EUI)
  • Building Envelope
  • Commercial Lighting
  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Systems
  • Appliances & Machinery
  • Economics and Payback Periods
  • Commercial Reporting

Course Format:  Virtual, Live Instruction

Prerequisites: The course requires high school level math and reading. Completion of basic algebra with at least a B- is very helpful.  You don’t need any previous experience in energy or auditing in order to follow along and learn how to conduct Energy Audits. Cameras are required to be on.

Course Materials: Printed copy of all course materials to be mailed to participant.

Course Dates: Monday-Friday, June 5th – June 9th, 2023. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00AM - 5:00PM, Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00PM - 5:00PM. The exam date is to be scheduled with instructor following live instruction.

Registration Deadline: May 26th, 2023 at 5:00PM

Time Commitment: 40 hours. 32 hours to complete the training. 8 hours to review and complete certification exam.

CEUs: N/A

Exam: Upon completion of the Audit Training Program, Subcontractor will provide participants access to their Commercial Testing Center to take a commercial energy auditor certification exam. Each participant shall be allowed to take the exam up to two times.  Participants that pass the certification exam shall be provided a commercial energy audit certification.  

All training and certification courses are offered at no cost to participants on a first come, first serve basis. Due to the time commitment for this course, registrants will only be allowed to signup for this course if they are not registered for any other courses through the DCSEU that present a time conflict (unless that course is self-paced).This program is designed to expand the local green workforce and local business opportunities.
