Washington, D.C., September 7, 2017 – Throughout the past six years, the DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU) has served thousands of residents and businesses in the District of Columbia and thereby has created lifetime energy cost savings of nearly half-a-billion dollars. In terms of environmental impact, through its work in energy efficiency and renewable energy, the DCSEU has prevented the emission of 2.5 million tons of CO2. Today, looking back on the past six years, the DCSEU is proud of its work that is creating a brighter economic and energy future for District residents and businesses.
The DCSEU has achieved these milestones through simple changes, like switching an incandescent light bulb to an LED, and through supporting bigger transformations, such as retrofitting and updating entire multifamily buildings with efficient lighting, appliances, and HVAC systems. By offering rebates and technical assistance, the DCSEU assists District residents and businesses make smart choices and afford energy-efficient products such as appliances, HVAC systems, cooking equipment, and more. Since 2012, the DCSEU has helped more than 500 low-income families gain access to solar energy, reducing their energy burden and enabling them to have more money for the things that matter most to them. In 2016 alone, the DCSEU served more than 150 families and completed this work on time and under budget. Through the Workforce Development program, the DCSEU has created green career opportunities for District residents. And the DCSEU’s efforts in the District of Columbia do not end here.
While this work is not always easy, and there are sometimes obstacles along the way, the DCSEU is always and will always be committed to achieving what is best for the District of Columbia, its residents and businesses, and the environment. The DCSEU is looking forward to continuing its work and serving the District over the course of the next four-and-a-half years.
