Capacity Building Training Opportunities

All trainings and certification courses are offered at no cost to participants on a rolling basis. This program is designed to expand the local green workforce and local business opportunities. Before you begin searching for the right course for you please complete our SEICBP Train Green Program Access Form. All program participants are required to complete this form in FY 2024 in order get access to courses. After this form is completed, you will receive a unique Train Green Registrant Code that you will be required to present at registration for each individual course. All training and certification courses are offered at no cost to participants on a first-come, first-served basis, however, registrants that work for District CBE’s and are DC residents will receive priority access to courses.

Learn How to Train Green & Choose the Right Course for You

1. Determine Audience

Tier 1 | District residents at District CBE or CBE-Eligible firms

Tier 2 | District residents working outside of the District or non-residents working for District CBE or CBE-Eligible firms

Tier 3 | Residents and businesses that do not meet the criteria listed under Tiers 1 and 2

Industries (not limited to):

  • Contractors in or looking to offer energy efficiency or renewable energy solutions
  • Building owners, property managers, building operators
  • Electricians, Plumbing, Lighting, or HVAC technicians
  • Engineers or energy service providers
  • Architects, designers, and safety engineers
  • Renewable energy/solar providers

2. Choose a Pathway

Energy Efficiency | This pathway includes courses that focus on growing knowledge of auditing, benchmarking, modeling, and optimizing energy use within commercial and residential buildings.

Sustainability & Health | Courses will examine Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating systems and other building standards that focus on how the built environment impacts human health and wellbeing.

Building Operations | Topics will explore best practices for whole building automatization, maintenance, operations, and green property management.

Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) | This pathway will specifically focus on HVAC system automation, operation, and maintenance.

Renewables & Solar | Courses will cover solar safety, installation and maintenance of battery/grid based solar systems.

3. Choose a Level

Introductory | Introductory courses provide a starting point for those without prior experience or new to the field with a solid foundation of general education areas of energy efficiency, building science and renewable energy to prepare students for participation and basic and advanced courses.

Basic/Intermediate | Basic/Intermediate courses may have additional prerequisites and require previous work or course experience. They are designed to provide registrants with a level of knowledge that can prepare them for entry-level work. Basic courses provide a Credential, Certification, or Certificate of Completion for attendees completing the course.

Advanced | Advanced courses generally have prerequisites found in the prior Basic category and can serve as an endpoint for a Pathway. They are designed to bring students with an existing knowledge base and/or experience to a higher level of competency. Advanced courses provide a Credential, Certification, or Certificate of Completion for attendees completing the course.

Have you completed our Train Green Program Access Form? All program participants are required to complete this form to determine program eligibility and receive your unique Train Green Registrant Code. All potential registrants will be required to provide their unique Train Green Registrant Code to the DCSEU to register for any upcoming courses in FY 2024. Without a registrant code, you will not be able to participate in any upcoming Train Green courses.
